Tree Nursery
At Future Forests Project CIC, our tree nursery plays a vital role in growing a diverse array of native and future forest species for the UK, with a strong focus on regenerative practices and community involvement. We nurture young trees ready for planting, and grow trees from seed, selecting species that are well-adapted to local conditions and capable of thriving across varied climates. Our regenerative approach emphasizes sustainability by using organic soil amendments, such as biochar, Organic seaweed feeds, and mycorrhizal fungi, which enhance soil health and promote robust tree growth. Engaging local communities is at the heart of our efforts; we actively involve volunteers and educational groups in planting and caring for these trees, fostering a collective commitment to environmental stewardship. By concentrating on native species, we enhance biodiversity and ecological resilience, while our focus on future forest species prepares us for the challenges of climate change.
Our Site
Our site at Bridies Farm in Glastonbury is the heart of Future Forests Project CIC’s operations, where we cultivate a diverse range of native and future forest species. Nestled in the scenic landscape of Glastonbury, admist the serene Somerset levels, this site is designed to support our regenerative practices and community engagement initiatives. The sustainable infrastructure at Bridies Farm allows us to grow healthy, resilient trees that are well-suited to local conditions. It also serves as a hub for community involvement, where volunteers and educational groups can participate in tree planting and woodland management, helping to foster a deep connection to nature and contribute to the growth of vibrant, sustainable forests.
Community Tree Nurseries
Community-based tree nurseries are crucial for advancing reforestation and afforestation efforts in the UK. By growing diverse and resilient tree species, these nurseries not only help increase the country’s low woodland cover and combat climate change but also engage local communities in the process. This involvement enhances biodiversity, improves ecosystem health by preventing erosion and enhancing water retention, and stimulates local economies through job creation. Additionally, they serve as educational platforms, promoting environmental stewardship and fostering a sense of responsibility towards local green spaces. Overall, community-based nurseries play a vital role in building sustainable and resilient forests while supporting ecological, economic, and educational goals.
