Apple - Bramley's Seedling
Description:Bramley's Seedling is classed as the finest cooking apple in the world! Fruit is greenish-yellow flushed with light brownish/orange-red stripes and russet spots. A strong acid flavour and shiny skin. It cooks to a creamy, brisk-flavoured puree, or can be more slowly baked for tarts and pies. The apple can produce a delicious single-fruit juice or will make a full sharp cider. Also a good crisp eater with a sweet-sharp bite after its been stored. Susceptible to scab, resistant to mildew, canker and late frosts with a heavy crop. An overall excellent cooking variety that cannot be faulted!
History:Raised from a pip by Mary Ann Brailsford, Southwell, Nottinghamshire, England between 1809 and 1813. It achieved local fame in the Church Street garden it was grown in. First exhibited in 1876 after it was introduced by Henry Merryweather.
